11 Months & 1 Day
The screaming! Will it never end! Why do boys scream so much? Lochlan is a screaming aficionado, the first couple of hours are stomach-able but by the afternoon, I am grinding my teeth and climbing the walls. Margot on the other hand is our little angel. Well sometimes, she’s starting to develop a mean streak against her big brother. There are times she’s easy going and can tolerate his bad behavior, like going from standing up at Paley’s kitchen, to sitting on his sister’s back. Then there are time’s where he grabs for something in her hand and she hits him. Yes, it’s already starting.
It’s crazy to think these two little one’s are going to be 1 in less than a month. Crazy! So far I have their birthday party location secured and the catering menu hammered out with our regular caterer. It’s going to be a wonderful party because just have so many family and friends there to share such a great day, gives Clem and I a flood of wonderful memories. The invites are in a holding pattern, after 2 months trying to find the perfect artist to take on our short window period, I was about to give up. Then the day after I was ready to throw in the towel. An artist I had contacted emailed me back. My prayer was answered. So that duck is almost straightened out.
Margot is still in throws of learning to walk. Holding onto things with a step or two is her boundary right now. Lochlan is so close to walking, it’s crazy how close he is! I did say I expected it to happen this week but I think it might happen shortly after their first birthday. Besides Lochlan’s screaming, his vocal capacity has increased greatly. It truly is difficult to curb the screaming but talking back and forth with him is so amazing. Margot is slowly learning words, she is close to actually grasping the pairing of words with the object. For now, I am Dada and Clem is Da already.
The twins are still growing like crazy. In the last month we cycled in their size 2 shirts, especially for Lochlan. He is still a good 4-5 pounds bigger than Margot and he is still a good inch taller than her. What’s interesting is Margot has really become a fast little girl. She has been blowing her brother out of the water when it comes to crawling. Doesn’t help when Lochlan crawl and cries, crawls and cries. Margot moved away from the army crawl a good 2 weeks before her brother and now she’s the quicker one when it comes to getting to their bottles on the floor. Yes, we have finally reached the point where the kids can just lay in their boppy and feed themselves.
I am lazy now, I’ll own it. You have to remember that I spent over 9 months sitting with each kid, feeding them with a bottle at least 5-6 times a day each. Let’s do the math, that means I used to do 8-10 feeds a day, sitting in a chair (I’m giving Clem 2-4 feeds a day). The average feed would last 10-15 minutes. That means my big butt was sitting in that chair 2 to 2 1/2 hours every day, sometimes longer. In those earlier months, feeds would be more like 20-25 minutes each.
What’s amazing his how quickly the twins explore the house, all day! They are everywhere it seems. Which is perfect, because how else can they exhaust all that energy. Climb is certainly on the docket for the last month of their first year. Up on the couch, seems to be a daily want for both of them. Lochlan will certainly be the first to tackle the side of the crib in the coming month as well. He’s already standing with his chin at the top of the crib side.
Well life with twins is always a fun endeavor! With all the craziness in the world, it’s nice to have kids to keep you humble and grounded. We were watching Top Chef Masters last night and two of the chefs were commenting or explaining why they chose to not have children. The first chef said he was just to consumed with his career to stop and have children, can’t get anymore honest than that! The other chef was a little more snarky. She said “I didn’t want to have children because I have a need to achieve perfection in my career and my life and children don’t allow you to achieve perfection.” I was floored she believed that having kids means would hinder one’s chance to achieve your dreams or become a successful. Enough was said when the other 6 chefs at the table all said, “we have children”, she tried to change her story. Open mouth, insert foot! Just like Lochlan loves to do!!!! But on the literal side of things.
